ABOUT US
A NEW GENERATION
An historic stud with an exciting new future
Based on the same Oak Tree lined property for over 80 years, Inglewood Stud combines the best of the old with the best of the new. The classic English laneways and hawthorne hedges are complimented by a modern, custom-designed stable facility with a dozen yearling yards feeding off the complex.
Accompanying the stable block is the stud’s racing facility, large enough to cater for five horses to be trained from the farm with fast-work undertaken at the Rangiora racetrack and Woodend Beach, both under 10 minutes’ drive away.
The main farm consists of 120 acres with further grazing available on supporting blocks. The climate and location of Ohoka allows for a unique environment in which to raise thoroughbreds, the property being more drought resistant than most in North Canterbury, while it often avoids the snow in winter when Canterbury is blanketed.
The stud has been under the care of Nick and Carol Wigley for the past 40 years, but 2012 saw their youngest son Gus move home to the stud with his wife Bianca.
Under the management of Gus and Bianca, the stud imported the young Dansili stallion Zacinto from England in 2012, and the beautifully bred stallion proved an excellent stallion for his owneship having produced three Group One winners to date.
In a major coup, 2018 saw the imposing bay stallion War Decree added to Inglewood Stud's roster and he has made an excellent start to his stud career, his progeny headed by G1 Queensland Derby winner Warmonger.
Moving forward Inglewood Stud is committed to standing world class stallions at South Island stud fees and to provide South Island breeders with commercial stallion options on their backdoor-step.
